Bringing in the New Year on Maui

We started out by going to a Lu'au on New Years Eve. This included many Mai Tais, a large buffet and a dinner show with a wide range of music and talent. The next day we checked out some areas in nearby towns and planned the rest of our big excursions. We took the road to Hanna with many sights, waterfalls and a picnic lunch along the way.

Our next adventure was a snorkeling, SNUBA and boating adventure out to Molokini. This was a nice ride with many amazing sights. This included close up views of whales, turtles, fish and coral. The winds were odd that morning and bringing vog over from the Big Island. We got to see the kite surfing in an unusual location on our way back because of this.

The next morning we were picked up at 3:20am and transported to an elevation of 9,740 ft. which was windy and a chilly 35 degrees at Haleakala. We huddled up to keep warm and once the sun came up, we then headed down the mountain...on bikes. At an estimated average speed of 20 miles per hour, we zig zagged down this mountain through four eco-zones across 22 miles. It was a little nerve-wracking for me, but turned out to be easier than I thought it would be...thank goodness!

This was our last adventure before we headed to the airport to fly to our final island. We went through the normal airport procedures and the plane was bigger than we expected. We actually flew over Oahu and caught a glimpse of Diamond Head, Wakiki Beach and Pearl Harbor on our way. Kauai here we come!
