That it was. Eric’s birthday party was again a picnic (rather than walk) in the park. A little smoother than usual, we had lots of folks, food and fun. It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon and most of the preparations were accomplished on the Friday and Saturday beforehand. Jon made a traditionally wonderful cake for the occasion. Our entertainment for the day included the beating of an Optimus Prime piñata, a short (harmless and damp) water balloon fight, tug-o-war and marshmallow stuff.
This was the first year that we had just as many girls as boys and over twenty kids (mostly 10 or under) in attendance. From family to co-workers to church friends to classmates to neighbors, there was a lot going on. A special thanks to my parents-in-law for their help in preparations, setting up, tearing down and cleanup. Also, a very nice friend of mine also helped tremendously by scooping ice cream and making a list of the many gifts Eric received. Their help allowed me to feel a little more social, less stressed and actually be able to appreciate what was going on and snap some pictures of our activities.
It was a busy day which extended even further out with more friends coming over to visit at our house after. We all had a good time in a wonderful day and celebration. You know when your son comes in and gives you a big, long hug just before bedtime and simply says “Thank you”, it was a great day.
