So, I feel like somewhat of a slacker. It is unheard of for me to take longer than a week to post vacation/special occasion pictures, but there's a first for everything. I suppose it is better late than never. My HIGH hopes of taking a laptop with me to post the pictures along the way out there did not reach fruition. The internet speed - although superb compared to the DirectTV service - did not correlate to my patience level to be able to do so. Anyway, here we are now - trying Total Recall on a day by day play.
Let me think back to that Friday now. The boys were off from school, our flight was scheduled for the afternoon and we were all packed and ready to go. So, we decided to venture downtown to go to Pamela's Diner for breakfast in the Strip. In thinking the pancakes were suitable for Obama, we wanted to give them a try as well. We parked in my downtown parking space and begin the hike. We thought that this would be a few blocks up. However, when I looked up the exact location as we began walking, I learned it was more than a few. We parked on 8th...Pamela's was on 21st. A LITTLE longer than we had intended, but the boys were troopers and pranced most of the way there, expecting a fantastic breakfast upon arrival. That part became true to form. After, I walked back to the car as it began to rain and picked them up. We were then READY TO GO!
Our traditional airport travel picture is with the T-Rex after you get off the tram. Security was a little more interesting than usual since Eric decided to pack large scissors in his backpack....we learned they were within regulation size but it took awhile to first search his bag and then determine that. However, we then had to repeat this episode again in Minneapolis. Since we had a layover of a couple of hours, we were able to meet up with Uncle Mark and Aunt Ellen there. They brought us all kinds of treats that carried us through the long day's journey west. We were so glad that it worked out to be able to visit with them, even if for a short while and refueling definitely helped since we technically were arriving in CA at 11pm EST. This made for a long day but it was all worth it.
We got our luggage and rental car and were off to our first destination, Auntie Marianne's house. She fixed quesadillas for us and had a cat the boys were fascinated with. The favorite question became "Where did Indigo go?" We decompressed a bit and then finally rested our weary heads to catch some shut-eye and begin the process of time conversion. Saturday morning, we took it easy and hung out with little motivation and no rush to head over to the boat for afternoon check-in. We stocked up for the week with our first trip to a Trader Joe's. We headed to the harbor ready to float our boat :)
