Wrapping It Up

WOW! Another year nearly over already and it has been a busy one. Christmas has been good to us all. We were fortunate to spend some quality time with some friends and our families during this wonderful time of year.

Our "deck the halls" holiday tradition with Eric's Godmother continued on with making and decorating cookies. She has two cats that the boys really enjoyed playing with in the visit to her new home. Lots of sweets and treats followed by some spectacular light display in the neighborhood led us into the home stretch of the Christmas week.

Then there were three kids + three dogs in our house on Christmas Eve (plus 6 adults) which certainly kept things interesting. It was a nice ham dinner with fixings followed up by icing more cookies and a friendly gingerbread house competition. One house looked good and the other one tasted even better! We then recruited my Mom and Larry to help wrap it up on Christmas Eve night (quite the gift to me!) so the boys were excited Christmas morning with many gifts waiting for them under the tree. Eric said he heard the reindeer "hoobs" and knew he had come. He was happy that he got several dragons, games and a cotton candy maker (although Jon may have been most excited for that gift from Santa). Just a dusting of snow came as well providing a beautiful sparkling view.

We then headed to Grandma and Grandpas the next day to visit Jon's family. We all delighted in the exchange of gifts and yummy food there. It also turned into a game fest with Uno, checkers, dominos, tic-tac-toe and other challenges. Eric got a chemistry and magic kit (two separate) which has peaked his interest as well. The boys are staying there for a couple more days while Jon and I came back to "get a handle" on the house and also enjoy some couple time. It's been quiet but fairly productive as I decided not to go into the office this week and need to stop checking my email but that is usually only possible by unplugging the computer.

So as we close out 2004, we look forward to a happy 2005 continuing to share more pictures, thoughts, and treats with you all! CHEERS!

The Christmas Show

Well, today was the day. The most frequent comment to us afterward was that Eric "played the part well." He was a very realistic sheep that did not "act" like a person with the exception of the song they sang and an occasional wave to Mom, Daddy & JESSE. Many "baaas", tossing around in the hay and sniffing fellow cast members were part of his convincing performance. It was a great job by all. A camel got sick at the last minute so there was only one who was 4 yrs old and he "belted out" a solo wonderfully. Jesse cheered them all on and was very well behaved during the show too. I tried to balance the video and digital camera so I'm hoping the video captured more of the full effect which we'd be happy to show you sometime soon as well. We may have TWO animals in a show next year, I can't even imagine what kind of performance that might be!

Today will be rounded out by going to a Christmas Cookie Bake-Off at Eric's Godmother's house this afternoon. Eric & Jon are doing some prep work before heading over there as visions of sugarplums dance in Jess's head (well I hope, as it seems quiet up there for naptime so far).

'Tis the season certainly seems appropriate now as we head into the "final week" of preparations before Christmas. It is quite "white" outside and I think we're above 3 inches of snow just this morning and more is on it's way down. Jesse wanted to put his boots and head out in it so I don't think it'll be long until we add in a snowman and snow angels into our Christmas decor. Merry Christmas!!!

HOOBS

Last evening, Eric and I were trying to decide what to have as a game for his class party on Thursday. He repeatedly suggested pin the tail or nose on the reindeer. I thought it would make it funny/amusing to do both myself. Anyway, Eric proceeds to tell me that I can make the big reindeer head and body. He'll make the red collar with bells and the horns because he is really good at that. He said "Oh, and I can also make the hoobs". I responded with they are "hooVes". He said, "ok, but horses have hoobs". I could do nothing but laugh. So, we'll have to see what we come up with by Thursday for partytime. It should be interesting as I have not spent much time with his class as Jon has helped out on occasion, but I don't have much opportunity with working. I've heard plenty about a few of the kids though so it should be interesting to see them in action!

Dream Jobs!

Eric got his first issue of Highlights Magazine today (thanks grandma and grandpa). While looking through it we saw a page that had readers’ responses to being asked what their dream job would be (when they grew up). There were also some pictured so Eric wanted us to draw pictures of what we want to be when we grow up. The two pictures below are the results (it was hard for me to decide)!

Eric wants to be a chef and he drew himself (the large yellow person) with a whole bunch of eager customers. Also pictured is a large cake (on the right) and giant cupcakes (on the left). These are lovingly adored with “icing candles,” instead of real candles.

I decided to be a race car driver. Notice the colored stripes on my car and on the wall from some rough racing! Eric keeps asking why I didn’t draw any other cars. I tried to tell him that it was because I was so far ahead of everyone else!

Maybe we’ll have to see what the rest of the family wants to be when they grow up too!

Fine Dining & Such

A post is long overdue although my priority is always sharing the pictures as they can say a thousand words (even without a caption) and probably bring the biggest smiles. So, November blew right on by with the wind which was whipping pretty good tonight here too.

Last month, Chef Eric and his waiter Jesse served me a wonderful dinner. There was even an apology from the chef about the waiter's manners and live music (drum and guitar). It was quite the at-home elegance, if ever there could be :)

So anyway, from rolling in the leaves to Thanksgiving for a dear nephew now age two, time has been zipping by faster than we can type out to say so. Plenty of holiday preparations are in the works: decorating trees, writing letters and greetings, shopping, making cookies, gingerbread houses along with bell and sheep practice (albeit a little unusual). There is lots to share in this time of preparation and we're happy to be able to share it with you even in this venue...so CHEERS!
